Departing on the Caribbean 1500

Following a bareboat charter in the Greek Islands in 1998, Marilyn and I knew that we wanted to do some extended cruising on our own boat so we set out on the task of finding and buying Dream Ketch'r. We owned Dream Ketch'r for nearly 6 years and sailed her extensively on the Chesapeake Bay before taking the plunge and going offshore. In October of 2005 we moved aboard and begin a shakedown cruise throughout the lower Chesapeake Bay. In November 2005 we were joined by two other crew in Hampton VA. and headed offshore to Tortola BVI with the Caribbean 1500 Rally.

In 2005/2006 we cruised the eastern Caribbean down to Grenada and then back up to return to the Chesapeake for the hurricane season. In the fall of 2006 and spring of 2007 we headed down the east coast of the US to Key West and then on down to the western Caribbean of Belize, Guatemala, and the Bay Islands of Honduras. Once again we returned to the Chesapeake for the summer hurricane season. In the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008 we returned to the western Caribbean and continued south along the coast of Nicaragua and Costa Rica to Bocas del Toro, Panama. Panama became home for the 2008 hurricane season and we left the boat for 7 weeks to return to the US to visit family and friends in Colorado.

Since we have had difficulty uploading pictures to this website in the past, we have started a new Blog which will continue on with the cruising adventures of Dream Ketch'r. Hopefully we will find it easier to get pictures posted. That has been the case so far, but we are still in the US with high speed internet access. So, we invite you all to visit us at www.dkcruising.blogsopt.com and keep up with our cruising adventures.
